Beautiful old hand colored plate from L'Art de la Mode, an antique fashion publication. Victorian woman shown in Visiting Dress. Printed on cream color stock. Reverse side is blank.
Description of outfit:
Material of changeable faille in dark moss green and resida. Plain round skirt trimmed with five graduated Vandyke's of dark moss green crochetted guimpe tipped with gold colored silk. The drapery, alike on both sides is folded back on itself under the looping at the side and trimmed with rows of guimpe, and edged like the bottom of the skirt with heavy silk cord. The top of this drapery is again folded over, falling over the bars of guimpe, forming a short plain panier. The sacques forms double points back and front, and opens over a vest of netting guimpe, outlined with draperies which terminate under the upper tab. Coat sleeves with gathered puff, the bottom disappearing in a slash above the elbow and finished with an ornament.
