It's hard to appreciate the stunning detail and clarity of this print until you see it in person.

In this picture from Boucher we see a young shepherd giving a little bird to the shepherdess to kiss, while she weaves a crown of leaves and forget-me-nots. As with other women Boucher has painted, the shepherdess has the same bulged and slightly retreating forehead, the turned-up nose, the dimpled mouth, the large, falsely innocent eyes, the type, in short, whose only real characteristic is its absence of moral expression.
