A note about the Hotel:
Built in 1929, the Master is the tallest building on Riverside Drive. Designed by Harvey Wiley Corbett, the 29-story building's distinctive Art Deco detailing is easily identified from Riverside Park and the Henry Hudson Parkway. Its corner windows are reputed to be the first in Manhattan. The building was originally conceived as an artist colony by the artist and philosopher Nicholas Roerich, and in the early days classes and musical and theatrical productions were offered, featuring several notable artists and musicians, and the famous Equity Library Theater. Subsequently, after some equally theatrical disputes among the founders, the building became the Master Apartment Hotel and later a rental building. In 1988 the building was converted to a cooperative residence.
