Beautiful old hand colored plate from L'Art de la Mode, an antique fashion publication. Victorian woman shown in Calling Dress. Printed on cream color stock. Reverse side is blank.
Description of outfit:
Material of pale almond vigogne. The skirt is of the same material brocaded in dark Roman red and yellow, and is laid in six inch kilts entirely around. The short drapery is pointed on the left side and raised high on the right in plaits turning up. The plaits with center of the front are obtained by slashing the goods under the plaits on the left side. The back drapery is very long, reaching to the bottom of the skirt, forming a round drapery with fullness thrown in from the middle. Jacket basque with vest of the same material buttoned the entire length. It is finished in two points, and outlined with brocaded revers and finished with collar and cuffs in brocade. The back is finished short and square, the fullness being obtained by three gussets of the brocade lined with crinoline.
