1910 Memphis Removes Eyesores ~ Article & Photos
1 of 3 (Enlarge)

Original illustrated  article that has been carefully removed from an old issue of The Ladies Home Journal. In 1906 The Journal published photos "Eyesores That Spoil Memphis." Mayor James Malone came along and fixed those eyesores which are shown, 4 years later, in this article. Included are photos of the Memphis Post Office which was beautified by erecting the Confederate Park; an old church with offensive billboards posted nearby that was turned into the Shelby County Courthouse; and a dumping ground that was changed into Chickasaw Park.
