Original wood engraving published as a supplement to the October 1886 issue of Harper's Weekly. Important historical print shows the Statue of Liberty looming in the foreground with New Jersey and Manhattan in the background. The Brooklyn Bridge can be seen spanning across the water with numerous sailboats and steam vessels populating the New York Harbor. A large group of people are gathered at the base of the Statue which was unveiled and dedicated by President Cleveland and other dignitaries on October 28, 1886. Important buildings on the horizon are named in the top margin of the print.
Bartholdi's statue was originally named "Liberty Enlightening the World," and was designated the Statue of Liberty National Monument in 1924.
This is a fantastic, rarely seen engraving in reasonably good overall condition.
Reverse side is blank.
