Beautiful old hand colored engraved plate from Le Bon Ton Journal de Modes, one of the finest fashion journals published in Paris. Six examples of Victorian millinery.
Brief description of hats:
ï Capote of plaited velvet, copper-colored, moss-green lace falling in a mantilla over a wreath of ancient pink flowers, then forming strings. ï Hat of navy-blue velvet, stretched plain; a torsade of velvet of the same shade goes round the crown, and is mingled in front with loops of gold satin. ï Capote of emerald green chenille trimmed all around with a border of chenille forming small loops mingled with silver threads. ï Capote of plaited tissue, bronze-colored; a double torsade of dark bronze velvet mingled with gold lace, trims the front. ï Hat of mignonette-green felt, torsade of mignonette velvet. Multi colored bird heading a cluster of feathers. ï Gray felt hat, trimmed with a drapery of gray velvet, fastening two white wings. Strings of gray ottoman.
