Two peasant children have come out to the shed where they have been nursing their sick lamb and find it lying dead. Childlike, they show their grief in different ways. One of them hides her face and sheds a few tears, the other looks sadly down on their lost pet, and perhaps feels as much as her demonstrative companion.
