Dated 1896, this is an original illustrated article that has been carefully extracted from the jubilee number of "The Dry Goods Economist," a trade journal for the textile industry that began publishing in the 1850's.

The article includes a table showing the value of importations of textiles into the port of New York for the years 1849 to 1895, and a table of statistics showing the production of textiles by American Mills.

Illustrations and/or photos include:

ï In the Dry Goods district of forty years ago (Broadway & Murray St.)
ï The early days of the present Dry Goods district (Masonic Hall between Duane & Pearl St.)
ï Early days of the present Dry Good district (Broadway at Franklin St. in 1850)
ï A busy corner as it appeared fifty years ago (Broadway & Grand St.)
ï When Dry Goods trade was near the Battery (St. Thomas's Church, Bway & Houston St.)
