This is the original cover of The Burlington Daily Free Press (Carnival Number) from February 1886.
The Winter Carnival of Sports was typically held in Montreal, Canada. But due to a smallpox outbreak, the Canadian event was cancelled. Burlington, Vermont stepped in and decided to hold a similar Winter Sports celebration in their town. The event was held in mid-February, 1886.
Delightful artwork depicts an adorable child holding aloft a carnival flag while standing on a toboggan being driven by a trio of reindeer. In the background are people toboganning, snowshoeing, etc.
This is an original historical print (over 125 years old), not a reproduction.
The reverse side contains some illustrations of various businesses in Burlington.
